Those who took Latin at school will find this video hilarious! XD

The one thing I hated about learning Latin, is learning it's case system! It drove me insane! XD I just didn't understand it. XD That's why I had so much trouble learning German, because it also has a case system (Nominative, Accusative, Dative, Genitive); I was like "Whaaaaaat is that?" XD

English doesn't have a case system (that is one of the reason it's considered the easiest language to learn in the world ^^) But it has to thank the French invasion for that! :D French doesn't have a case system either. Whereas Old English did, because it was a Germanic language. But when the French invaded England (the Norman conquest in 1066), the English language slowly started imitating the French language, and losing it's case system.

The reason French doesn't have a case system is because it has a rigid grammar: the subject, the verb and the direct / indirect object are always in the same place (you can't interchange their places in a sentence). You only need a case system when you can move around the subject, verbs, etc, in different places in a sentence. When you can do that, you need a case system to tell you who is subject, who is object, etc. Or else you don't who is doing what. XD

Here is an example: let's take the words "father", "read", "book" and "son". If your have a rigid grammar you know that the first word is always subject, so you know the first word is the one doing the action. (the father is reading the book to his son). But if you don't have a rigid grammar AND you don't have a case system; you could have different interpretations (it could mean "the son read the book to his father" or "the father read the book to his son" or maybe even a third possibility) which is why you need a case system to say who is doing the action to whom. Or else it's basically chaos. XD

Anyways, I understand the concept of case system, I just HATED learning the declinations! XD It was such a pain! XD

Which is why this video makes me laugh, because I realize I'm not the only who is confused by the case system. XD

What do you think of it?

Latin is logical and simple. You should take a look at the Czech castes, declension & conjugations.
